Mrs Davies And Pirie Have Wins

The Now Zealand elite champion D. A. G. .Pirie and the National women's champion Mrs Robyn Davies, both scored victories in open orienteering events yesterday:

Pirie won the New Zealand Federation open score event held in the Waiuku State forest in the time of 2h 9m 45s, a feature of the day being the fine performance of 14-year-old Andrew Bothner-By in finishing third (in the intermediate race, barely 23m behind the New Zealand representative S. Moen.

In the Oropi native forest, where because of the density of the bush exact compass and map utilisation, combined with observation of the surroundings, was demanded all the way, Mrs Davies avenged her defeat of two 11 weeks ago at the hands of the national cross-country and former Commonwealth Games track representative Mrs Val Robiiison in the Bay of Plenty-Waikato contest.

The senior race of 4.3 miles was won by the national representative J. Davies (Pinelands) in 64m.
